Boston and DC Historical Trip

Let me first start out that I have taught 5th grade for 4 years, which I teach US History, and have never been to ANY of the sites of our countries birth. So I planned a trip to Boston and DC and invited my Grandmother and my cousin. My cousin just got out of 8th grade, which is also a US History year. So it was perfect.
I also wanted to stay as close to the sites as possible and that was NOT possible with a hotel. My cousin in Utah had introduced my mom to AirBnB where people rent out rooms or apartments for weary travelers to stay in. Both of these locations we stayed in apartments. And they were worth it!

We started our trip in Boston walking the Freedom Trail. Our apartment was around the corner from the Paul Revere statue.

Bunker Hill Monumnet that we climbed - 294 steps

We also toured the USS Ironsides

We then took Amtrak, 7 hours south, to Washington DC. Our apartment here was 3 blocks from the Library of Congress.
Our first day we had 3 appointments - Bureau of Engraving and Printing at 8:30AM

The US Capitol Building at 11:30AM

And the Library of Congress.

Day two was Memorial Day.
We started at the Jefferson Memorial

Then Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

The MLK, Jr. Memorial

Next the Korean War, WWII, and Vietnam Memorial

Finally, the Lincoln Memorial

After the memorials, we hopped on the shuttle to Arlington National Cemetery.

Tomb of the Unknown Solider and the Changing of the Guard

Whew, what a day.
The next day we went to the Holocaust Memorial - no pictures were allowed but it had me in tears as soon as we began. Then we hopped on the shuttle to Georgetown to see the National Cathedral.

Hopped off the bus and walked to the White House.
After that we went to the American History Museum.

And ended with completing one floor of the Natural History Museum.

This day was Alec's day to choose the museum and we went to the Air and Space Museum.

Our last day we went to the Smithsonian Zoo. And completed the Natural History Museum.

We also saw fireflies for the first time!

And now we are home! What a quick, fun, and exhausting trip.
